HAWAIIAN BEEF

HAWAIIAN BEEF

This is a dish for those to try who want to have a change in taste from the regular beef recipes. It has a combination of fruit and vegetables. A sweet and sour flavour with no spices except that of black pepper.

INGREDIENTS

Half a Kilo of Undercut Beef - fairly thinly sliced
5 Cloves of Garlic - Chopped
Half an Inch of Fresh Ginger - Chopped
1 Large Capsicum - Cut into little squares
1 Bunch of Spring Onion - Not too finely chopped
1 Cup of Pineapple - Cut into chunky bits
I Large Apple (Not Green) - Cut into large chunky cubes
4 Tbsp Honey
4 Tbsp Tomato Ketchup
2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 or 2 Tbsps Sesame Seeds
1 Rounded Tbsp Cornflour
1 tsp Crushed Black Pepper
Salt to taste

DIRECTIONS

Place a heavy bottomed wide pan on heat. Add the oil and tip in the garlic. Saute until it is very lightly browned. Add the beef.

Cook on high heat until the colour of beef changes. Add the ginger. Continue stir frying for a few minutes until the beef is well browned. Take the pan off the heat.

Add the pineapple and honey. Stir to mix. Place the pan back on heat but on low heat just enough to simmer. Let it simmer for 3 minutes.

Add the onions and capsicum. Stir and let simmer for 2 minutes.

Add the apples. Add the Worcestershire Sauce, ketchup, some salt and the crushed black pepper. Add half a cup of water. Stir, cover and let simmer for 2 minutes. Stir the cornflour in a little water. Uncover pan and pour in the cornflour while stirring. Cook for 1 minute. Check and adjust seasoning. Sprinkle on the sesame seeds and take off the heat.

Serve hot with boiled rice or Garlic Fried Rice
